The Caspian Sea, with an area of 380,000 km², is the world’s largest inland sea, at the interface between Europe and Asia. The region’s economic, cultural and ethnic ties makes the Caspian Sea a regional center.

The Caspian region with its vast oil and gas reserves is an increasingly important source of energy. The Caspian Sea, the world’s largest saltwater lake, is also the source of more than 90 percent of the world’s caviar.

The region is also an important transit hub for various goods and plays an important role in the “New Silk Road” and the “North-South corridor”, among others. The sea’s ports in Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iran and Turkmenistan are strategic intersections of several international transport corridors.

Following the historic agreement between the five littoral states in August 2018, the five countries are also working to expand their economic cooperation.

With the 1st Caspian Europe Forum, the Maleki Corporate Group is creating a platform to discuss with experts the importance of this agreement and the cooperation between the countries in the region for Europe and the opportunities for European companies in the fields of energy, sustainibilty, logistics and infrastructure.

There are many questions that will be discussed:

  • How have the states in the region reacted to the Covid-19 pandemic?
  • Will the convention on the legal status of the sea pave the way for foreign trade and investment?
  • What are the opportunities for European SMEs?
  • What is the role of the Caspian region in the European energy security?
  • What is the impact of climate change on the Caspian Region?
  • How is the cooperation between the EU and Central Asia in sustainable development?
